What To Expect

During this one-day tour you will experience the city life of Old Dhaka. You will visit the Sadargath (water front), Pink Palace, Shakari Bazar (Hindu Street), Dakeswari Temple, and the Red Fort. We then drive 26km to the Old Capital of Bengal, called Sonargaon. (The name means ‘Golden Village’). This is where you can see a few dozen ageing Rajbari, built by Hindu zamindars and business men about two centuries ago.  Historically this city existed in the 3rd century passing through Hinduism, Buddhism, and then Islam by the Sultans, called Mughal. For anyone who likes to dig in history & archaeology. This is a very interesting place. We take our lunch in a famous Briyani house or local restaurant in Dhaka.

 

Dakeswari Temple:

Nestled in the heart of Dhaka, the Dakeswari Temple is a sacred haven for devotees. Adorned with intricate architecture, this Hindu temple stands as a testament to the city’s religious diversity. Pick up at a place convenient to you, and drive to Old Dhaka.

Sightseeing starts with a walk through the narrow alleys and streets of Shakari Bazaar. Enjoy discovering lifestyle of people and places in Old Dhaka.

Go to the Pink Palace which has been turned into a museum, (although formerly it was the Nawab’s Palace).

Visit the vibrant Sadarghat (Boat Station). Here you will see and experience how people of Bangladesh go about travelling to other parts by boat.

We now visit Dakeswari Temple. It is the National Hindu Temple of Bangladesh built by Raja Balal Sen in the 11th century.

The Red Fort, which is not been completed, originates from 15th century; it was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb by his general Shaista Khan.

Have lunch in a local restaurant.

We begin our 25 km. drive towards the old capital of Bengal, called Sonargaon.

Visit and walk through the ruins of Panam Nagar (Sonargaon). This former commercial centre was once vibrant with the richness of its business life.

Visit the Goaldi Mosque built by the Sultans of Bengal during 14th century.

Drive back to your hotel.

Arrive at the hotel where this tour ends.
